The most extraordinary experience for our family on The Great Barrier Reef. With so many operators it was hard to work out which would be best suit our family, we ended up with Passion s of Paradise, they did not disappoint, the superstar crew were fun, knowledge and passionate, looking after us from the moment we stepped foot on the boat. A Travelling family with a 14, 11, & 9 year olds, the crew made sure the kids were safe and experienced the reef, guiding them and us through the reef, as a parent I was able to enjoy my experience, while the kids were in safe hands. Loved the informative talk, providing our family with a deeper understanding of the reef. Oh and kept feeding the kids cookies. Highly recommend this crew.

Review on TripAdvisor

We had such a great day on the reef with Passions of Paradise! The boat was comfortable and not too crowded. The crew was professional, knowledgable and approachable, and had high safety standards. They really took care of every passenger, from experienced divers to those who could not swim. You get plenty of time to snorkel at two reef locations, and scuba diving or glass-floor boat tours are optional extras. We had an experience of a lifetime, and would highly recommend it.

We were unsure of which boat to choose for our tour of the reef, but knew we wanted to give the kids a sailing experience of some sort so ended up choosing Passions Of Paradise... We are so glad we did. From the friendly crew, who let the kids "drive the boat", to the water crew that made them feel comfortable having never snorkelled before, they were all amazing. The food onboard was delicious, organised and prepared by the well oiled machine that the crew really are. The best thing about it was how personal it felt... The crew were happy to sit and chat, answer both ours and the kids questions and generally make you feel part of their little family for the day... Great choice for all age groups, families, couples, young groups etc. The scenery was a bonus, exclusive reefs made it that bit more special. Thanks again POP! Can't wait to visit you all again! Love Hayley, Paul, Sam & Charli

The whole team at Passions made our group feel so welcomed and relaxed. They were informative, and catered for a variety of people's needs; kids, through to grandparents. Locally owned as well. Would highly recommend these guys to anyone for an amazing reef experience.

I went snorkelling back in February as part of a top deck group activity! I wasn't going to go because I can't swim and thought I would be in the way! I'm terrified of the water but I didn't want to leave Oz without seeing the Reef. All the crew on passions were so helpful, professional and encouraging. I wasn't made feel silly for being unable to swim, in fact quite the opposite!
Kieran, a cool guy working onboard, looked after me. He took me out snorkelling and ensured me I was safe and nothing would happen to me! All I had to do was hold onto the life ring and he did the swimming! It was the best experience of my life! I felt so safe despite being terrified! I was so proud of myself. However I don't think I could have done it without Kierans help. Hopefully he reads this. Thank you

Excellent service from Passions of Paradise Great Barrier Reef experience operatin operating out of Cairns in Northern Queensland, Australia. I have just completed second day trip in a month with this company - taking groups of folks for SCUBA & snorkelling bon the reef. A local independent outfit, very professionally run with really positube and supportive atitudes from everyone on board and from the back office staff too. Many thanks to Mossy, Aelx, Nicky, Nichola, Sion & Kate - plus all of the others. I will definitely be recommending you to others! Best wishes from Michael Perrins in Cleveland, Ohio!

The Passions of Paradise tour exceeded all expectations. The crew is friendly, relaxed, extremely service-minded and passionate about the reef and its inhabitants. On top of all this, the lunch was of very good quality. I do recommend to bring something warm to wear after the snorkling though!

Great day scuba diving and snorkeling. Knowledgeable crew with a sense of humor and a great passion for the reef. Not just involved in diving but devoted to the care of the reef and saving it. A pleasure to see and experience! Thank you to Mossy, Russel and Zoe.

  • Bring, hat, sunscreen, bathing gear, sunglasses, towel, etc. as you would for travelling to the beach. We have credit card facilities on the boat.
  • We welcome you to visit us at our counter at the Reef Fleet terminal, open 7 days a week, until 4 pm for more information or email us.

Got Questions?

There are so many questions we are frequently asked and hopefully, the answer to yours are below, however, if you would like to know more, why not test out our email skills. Contact Us, we’d love to fill in the blanks.

Where do you check in and what time do you depart?

We check in from 7:oo am at our counter at the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal at the end of Spence Street, Marlin Marina. The boat is located about 50 meters away on the Marlin Jetty and we depart at 8 am.

When do you return?

We return at around 5 pm. We always try to do some genuine sailing on the way home (no motors), and so times can vary either way by 10 or 15 minutes – but generally it is 5 pm.

Do you provide transfers?

Yes, at a small extra charge, because we use a bus company to do this for us. We do transfers locally as well as from the Northern Beaches. We do not, unfortunately do transfers from Port Douglas as it is more than one hour away from Cairns. Please see our cost page for latest prices.

Can I scuba dive with no experience?

Yes you can. Anybody with general good health can enjoy the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Please note, all scuba divers must complete a dive medical questionnaire aboard the boat. Some illnesses such as asthma may preclude you from scuba diving. Please check with your doctor or our office if you have any queries.

Can my children scuba dive?

Yes. Scuba diving for children over 12 years of age is available to book onboard.

Do you have a photographer onboard?

Yes, we do. Our friendly photographer is on hand every day to capture those special family memories!

Are there many sharks?

You may be lucky enough to see a little white or black tip reef shark pass you by as small reef sharks are common. However, they are very shy.

Is there a shaded area to sit?

Yes! When you arrive on onboard our crew will escort you to your table for the day. All of our tables are in the airconditioned salons, here you can park your belongings for the day and then choose to sunbath outside or stick to the shade indoors! If you are bringing a stroller on board we just ask that you make sure to arrive early to check in so we can get you on board first!

Do you still go out if it is raining?

Usually the rain in Cairns tends to stick to the mountains. Cairns is in a valley and attracts fairly high rain falls, being part of the wet tropics environment. However as our reef is 40 km’s off shore, the clouds don’t collect and the rain tends to stay away. If you wake up in the morning in Cairns and it is raining…don’t panic! It will usually be fine out at unique outer reef locations.

Do you provide all of the dive and snorkel equipment?

Yes, everything. We have snorkel equipment sized for children and parents. Life jackets are available for the little ones and flotation belts for the slightly bigger little ones. We even have dive computers for the certified divers!

What if my child or I get seasick?

If you are prone to seasickness, it is advisable to take something before you go. Check with a chemist. As Passions is a catamaran, it is a lot more stable in rough weather than monohulls and the sails act as a stabiliser. We do sell sea sickness pills on board the boat, but please remember, tablets are a preventative, not a cure, so take them just before we depart.

What if I forget my diving certification card?

If you have your log book, bring that with you on the boat. If you have neither, call your certifying agency and get them to fax you a copy of your scuba diving certification. Otherwise, we have a pre-dive check out test you can do with the Instructor on the boat to verify your skill level and current scuba diving knowledge.

Do you cater for vegetarians?

Yes we do. We have five different salads, plus one of the two hot dishes is always vegetarian. Other special requests are sometimes possible with notice ….by all means ask….

What if I can’t swim?

The Passions of Paradise crew will look after you. The boat has a large range of snorkel vests and buoyancy aids available for you to use, and there are two snorkel stations near our boat for you to hold on to while you build up your confidence. Our crew will also hop in the water with you until you are comfortable.
