Passions of Paradise is proud to announce that it will be participating in the Cairns Regional Council’s “ECO-Week” activities from 29 May – 7 June 2015, which will officially kick off on May 31 with “ECO-Fiesta.” ECO-Fiesta is a free community festival weaving environment, community and economy into a festival atmosphere for a day of fun, friendship and ECO-inspiration. Passions of Paradise will arrive at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal around 5:30 PM, just as the ECO-Fiesta activities get into full swing.

ECO-Fiesta celebrates and showcases the Far North’s unique natural environment, tropical lifestyle and green economy, and is the feature event of ECO-Week 2015. Event highlights include live music on the waterfront stage, an electric vehicle trade show, local fashion designers showcasing sustainably-produced streetwear and high end fashion, as well as over 70 stalls featuring products and services from local businesses and community groups. The ECO-Fiesta activities will also feature short forums from passionate local ECO-champions, cooking demonstrations featuring local chefs and local produce, and fun team events and games, a walk-in maze, circus skills, wildlife rescues and buskers. In conjunction with the kick-off of ECO-Week at the ECO-Fiesta, Passions of Paradise is launching a locals special as a way to showcase our sustainable operations in the community.

Passions of Paradise Marketing Manager Adam O’Malley invites anyone wanting to learn more about sustainability to come on-board for a trip and see responsible reef practices in action.  “The real goal of participating in ECO-Week is to raise awareness in Cairns and the Far North of the benefit of incorporating sustainable practices and habits into our everyday lives, and we also like to show that we as an operator are committed to running a reef trip that is not only fun and full of adventure, but also respects the ecosystem we operate in,” Says Adam. “We want people to experience how our operation as a whole enriches the local community and promotes the long-term viability of our local environment.”

Passions of Paradise is also offering a special to certified divers from June 1-5, where they can come and spend a day on-board Passions of Paradise with our Environmental and Sustainability Manager Russell Hosp and be an Honorary Marine Naturalist for the day. “Participants will take part in underwater surveys, learn about reef ecology and help control destructive coral predator populations,” says Russell. “The objective is for divers to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to travel with an award-winning, eco-accredited local operator and actively help protect the Great Barrier Reef.“

So if you are new to the concept of sustainability, want to learn more ways you can help protect the environment, or are just looking for fun activities, Passions of Paradise encourages you to check out ECO-Fiesta, and to book a trip with us and see the natural wonder of the Great Barrier Reef. Anyone interested in booking a trip with the locals special or the certified diver “ECO-Week Package” can contact our friendly reservations staff at 07 4041 1600, and feel free to check our Facebook page for updates.
